Firstly I apologise, it really has been a while, but life!
I had a fleeting idea for a post a couple of days ago when the usual ‘What are you giving up for lent?’ question came up…
Side note: For those of you that don’t know, Pancake Day is officially Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday- The start of Lent 40 days & 40 nights.
Ok back to the point, so here we go, my answer this year: I’m giving up…. giving up. This was followed with various reactions including confusion and laughter, but the truth of it is, some years it’s worked out for me – but more often than not you spend the whole 40 days craving the one thing you’ve given up, life seems tough and you’re close to breaking point every day until finally it’s all over and you go OTT back on that item.
So instead, I’ve opted for adding things for my 40 days and 40 nights, maybe make that belated ‘New year, new me’ lifestyle change. That way when lent ends; I would have bettered myself and won’t be on a frenzy to fill myself on whatever sweet treat I could have given up. Winning all round right? Close enough. So if you’re struggling for what to give up, try adding something instead because lets face it, January’s over and you need a reason to actually keep up with that New Years Resolution.
Earlier nights, earlier mornings and daily workouts are all in store for me beginning today!
